    • Moon Festival We will celebrate this event on September 19th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at our usual location: the outdoor area at Central Market North on Lamar near 38th Street.
We plan to modify some of the activities somewhat to reduce risk of COVID.
      Here are the planned activities:
      — Ms. Jellybean will make balloon animals.
      — There will be gift bags for kids with moon cakes inside.
      — Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team will perform. We are planning to have kids drop the hong bao in a bucket vs. have them give it directly to the lions. The lions can collect the bucket at the end of the dance.
      — We will sail tea lights on a raft to send our thanks and wishes to the moon.
    • FCC Swim Get Together August 7th at Deep Eddy Pool, 5:00 to 7:00 pm. FCC Austin is going to have a little (or big) swim get-together to do some swimming and hang out. Afterwards, some of us plan to get some pizza, or other quick dinner, nearby. Entrance fee is $3 for kids up to 17 yrs old, $5 for adults (fee is a little more if you are a non-Austin resident). There is a good size parking lot but it fills up sometimes; good alternative parking is on Veterans Drive to the East, with a good pedestrian cut-through near the pool entrance to access that street.
    • Virtual Chinese New Year Celebration/Dumpling Party will be on Saturday, February 27, at 5:30 pm. Contact Marianne Reat for the zoom details. Provided here is a simple recipe for pork dumplings. You should prepare the filling for the dumplings before the celebration’s scheduled time. Your dumpling wrappers should be thawed out if they were frozen, but keep them cool. If they get too soft, they might tear. Of course, you can use your own recipe if you prefer.
Other things to look forward to during our celebration:
      — Trivia game presented by some of our young teenagers (this will be fun!)
      — Election of officers
      — Information about Year of the Ox t-shirts
